T.G.I.F.

Technisch gezien is het zaterdag, maar dat hoeft niemand te weten. Ik weet dat ik de afgelopen dagen nogal M.I.A. (missing in action) geweest ben, maar de dagen vliegen hier voorbij, en ik blijf bezig. Naast het feti dat ik gewoon naar school ga, sport ik ook regelmatig en heb ik gezellige etentjes met verschillende internationals. De vrijdag avond, zaterdag en zondag zijn vaak al volgeboekt aan het begin van de week, en dan heb ik ook nog huiswerk om te maken. Druk, druk, druk.

Maar als het dan eindelijk weekend is, dan is het ook een geweldig weekend. Gisteren (vrijdag avond) heb ik geschaatst op de Empire State Plaza Ice Rink, waar elke vrijdag gratis geschaatst kan worden. Degene die mijn Facebook post hebben gezien, hebben meegekregen dat ik maar 1 keer gevallen ben, kudo’s voor mezelf. Volgens Fem zag het eruit als de scene in Bambi waar het hertje op het ijs valt er weer probeert op te staan.

Vandaag (zaterdag) begon met het maken van huiswerk, skypen met het thuisfront en dan vanavond mijn eerste basketball game! The Big Purple Growl; zo heet het event. Het heren team speelt tegen een team uit Vermont en ik heb er zin in! Natuurlijk heb ik wel eens een stukje van een wedstrijd meegekregen, maar dit is toch anders. Volgens bronnen is er een echte marching band en zijn er cheerleaders!

Morgen (zondag) is ook een dag waar ik al weken op wacht. Eerst gaan we cosmic bowlen (soort van glow in the dark bowling) met verschillende internationals. Dan is het s’avonds tijd voor het Amerikaanse sport event van het jaar; the Super Bowl 50! Weet ik iets van American Football; nee. Heb ik enig idee wie er spelen; ja, maar vraag me niet waar ze vandaan komen. Kijk ik het meeste uit naar de commercials; YOU BET. Ik ben zo’n iemand die een paar dagen na de Super Bowl op Youtube de commercials opzoekt. Met een grote groep internationals crashen wij deze zondag avond bij een uiterst gastvrije host, iedereen neemt wat te eten of drinken mee en gezellig maken we het wel.

En dan begint de schoolweek al weer, wat gaat het toch snel. Deze week heb ik vooral veel schoolwerk te doen, omdat ik volgend weekend lekker weg ben. Waarheen vraag je? *Alicia Keys’ Empire State of Mind plays in the background* NEW YOOOOOOOORK, concrete jungle where dreams are made of….en je kent de rest wel. Voor mij word dit de eerste keer in NYC, en ik heb er zoveel zin in! Het lijstje met alles wat ik wil zien word steeds groter, en ik weet zeker dat ik nog eens terug moet komen wil ik alles doen (wat jammer nou). Samen met de geweldige Femke, Anette en Ilka gaan wij met Valentijns weekend de stad onveilig maken (kuch, kuch)

Een mooier weekend en vooruitzicht kun je je toch niet voorstellen? Nee, dat dacht ik al. Een van de hoogtepunten van afgelopen week is trouwens ook dat het voeren van drop aan Amerikanen het beste beeldmateriaal ooit oplevert. Dat wou ik ook nog even delen.

So technically it’s Saturday, but no one has to know that. I know that I have been M.I.A. (missing in action) for the past couple of days, but times flies! Besides going to school, I work out regularly and I have the most pleasant meals with multiple internationals. Most of the time my Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays are fully booked at the beginning of the week. And then I still have to do homework, I am a busy bee.

But when the weekend finally does come around, it is an awesome one! Last night (Friday) I went ice skating at the Empire State Plaza Ice Rink, where every Friday you can ice-skate for free. Those who saw my Facebook-post will know that I only fell once, kudos. According to Fem it looked like the scene from Bambi where Bambi fell on the ice and tried to get back up again.

Today (Saturday) has started with doing my homework, using Skype to connect with everyone at home, and it will end with my first ever basketball game! The Big Purple Growl it’s called; the men’s team will play against a team from Vermont and I am so excited! Of course I have seen pieces of basketball on the television, but actually seeing one is so different. According to different sources there is an actual marching band and even cheerleaders!

Tomorrow (Sunday) is a day I have been looking forward to for a long time. First we’ll go cosmic bowling with a big group of internationals. Then in the evening it’s time for America’s biggest sporting event of the year; the Super Bowl 50! Do I know anything about American Football; No. Do I have any idea who’s playing? Yes, but don’t ask me where they are from. Am I looking forward to the commercials; YOU BET. I am one of those people who after the Super Bowl will go to Youtube to look at the commercials. With a group of internationals we will be crashing at a very hospitable host's place, everyone will bring something to eat or to drink and I have no doubt that it will be a very exciting evening!

And then the normal week will start again, times flies…This week is one that primarily consists of doing homework, because next week I won’t be in town. Where will I be, you ask? *Cue Alicia Keys’ Empire State of Mind playing in the background* NEW YOOOOOOORK, concrete jungle where dreams are made of…and you know the rest. This will be my first time in NYC, and I have never been more excited! The list with all the activities I want to do keeps getting longer and longer, and I am afraid I will have to go back sometime to finish it (oh no). Together with the awesome Femke, Anette and Ilka I will turn NYC upside down (suuureee…..)

You couldn’t imagine a better weekend, could you? That’s what I thought. By the way, one of the highlights of my week was getting Americans to taste licorice, for it provides you with the best videos ever. I just wanted to share that.
